Clinical Pain Educator of the Year

Sondra M. Adkinson, PharmD, DAAPM, CPE

Dr. Adkinson received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and has a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from the Ohio Northern University in Ada. She is currently practicing as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System in Florida, in the Outpatient Interdisciplinary Pain Clinic. She serves on the National VA Pharmacy Pain Workgroup, BPVA Pain Team, and is a Clinical Instructor of Pharmacy Practice offering Clerkship training to Pharmacy Students in Pain Management for the University of Florida College of Pharmacy (UF), Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine College of Pharmacy Bradenton Campus, Nova Southeastern College of Pharmacy, and the Palm Beach Atlantic College of Pharmacy. She is also a licensed Consultant Registered Pharmacist in Florida since 1986 and is a licensed Registered Pharmacist in Florida and Ohio. She has been credentialed by examination as a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management since 2008 (DAAPM), and is also a Certified Pain Educator.

Academic Pain Educator of the Year

Christopher M. Herndon, PharmD, BCPS, CPE, FASHP

Dr. Herndon is an Associate Professor at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) School of Pharmacy and Clinical Specialist with the St. Louis University School of Medicine Department of Community & Family Medicine Residency Training Program. In his current role, Dr. Herndon sees chronic pain patients in a multidisciplinary setting within a large family medicine residency clinic where he trains medical and pharmacy students, as well as pharmacy and physician residents on appropriate opioid and adjuvant prescribing, monitoring, and assessment. Dr. Herndonís scholarship interest focuses primarily on pain and palliative care education for pharmacists and he is the Co-Principal Investigator for the NIH Center of Excellence in Pain Education at SIUE. Dr. Herndon is a Certified Pain Educator, is active in professional service, and serves on the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee for the American Pain Society, the Section Advisory Group on Pain Management and Palliative Care for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Curriculum Task Force, Pharmacy for the International Association for the Study of Pain.

Industry Pain Educator of the Year

Angela G. Huskey, PharmD, CPE

Dr. Huskey is the Director of Clinical Practice Education at Millennium Laboratories and a Research Scientist with Millennium Research Institute. At Millennium, she leads the development of clinical education, assists in research projects and publications, and provides leadership regarding clinical affairs. In her current role, she has the opportunity to fuel her passion for pain education and also contribute to advancing the science and improving the outcomes of pain management through education. In addition, Angela is a Certified Pain Educator, and has previously worked as a clinical pharmacy specialist with a pain management team in an academic medical center and as a pain educator for Abbott Laboratories, King Pharmaceuticals, and Covidien. Angela is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy and co-coordinator of the Pain Management and Palliative Care elective. Angela earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree with highest honors from the University of Florida and subsequently completed a specialty residency in Pain Management and Palliative Care at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in Tampa, Florida.
